It’s a blog!

I’m constantly encouraging my kids to try new things.  “Expand your horizons!  How do you know you don’t like it if you’ve never tried it?”  Every time I say these things, a little voice echoes in the back of my head, reminding me to “practice what I preach.”  Yes, I admit it.  I have a tendency to cozy up in my comfort zone and resist venturing into new territory unless absolutely necessary.  But being a parent has led me to one self-makeover after another, as I strive to set an example for my little ones.  One of these recent self-improvement efforts is what ultimately led to the website makeover you see before you now.  Bear with me for a moment while I set the stage for this story…

For some time now, I’ve been realizing that technology has been passing me by.  I could see myself quickly approaching the moment where my children would be teaching ME how to use these “new-fangled gadgets.”  Yes, I was feeling old!  But it wasn’t until my retired mother began regularly “texting” as a preferred method of communication (while I, on the contrary, couldn’t even figure out how to make my cell phone do that) that I realized it was time to get myself in gear and catch up with the rest of civilization!  So I got the texting thing figured out and started looking for the next step of modernizing my communication efforts.

Now we’re getting to the meat of the story.  Over the summer, I grudgingly dipped my toe into the pool of social networking, certain that I would detest it.  Instead, I found myself delighted at the ease of sending out quick bites of information about our lives to all of my friends and family all at once.  A five-minute daily review could bring me up-to-date on the lives of those I rarely had a chance to connect with in everyday life.  It was like reading the headlines of the local paper, except that all the stories were about people I personally knew and cared about!  And the icing on the cake was reconnecting with so many old friends with whom I’d lost touch many years ago.

It wasn’t long before I began to think about how I could translate these exciting communication revelations to improved communication with you, my Heritage Makers’ storybooking clients.  Light bulb moment!  It dawned on me that transforming my website into a blog would be a great way to keep you updated on all the fresh, exciting new things happening with Heritage Makers.   So, here we are!  I plan to use this format to share with you some of my own storybooking projects, help you to get started on your own projects with story-starter prompts and innovative project ideas, keep you informed about sales and specials, let you know about new products, and more.  My goal is to inspire you to preserve your own memories and the stories from your life into keepsakes that your family will treasure for generations to come.

So, if this is your very first time visiting my website, welcome!  Please stay and poke around as long as you’d like.  And for all of you return visitors: what do you think of the makeover?  I’d love to hear your feedback; please leave a comment to share your thoughts and ideas.

Happy storybooking!
